The extermination of millions of Indigenous people wasn't met lying down. Skirmishes and wars broke out all throughout the Americas, as colonizers were met with resistance at every turn. One such war lasted nearly 300 years in what is now recognized as Chile. The Mapuche people fought against the establishment of forts and cities on their land from 1536 into the 19th century. Although they were able to hold out for so long, the government that grew around them would eventually make it's final push to extinguish the last revolts and call an end to a war that lasted 3 centuries.

Numbers swell with each passing expedition
But always in vain
The forest conceals those who lie in wait

6 thousand strong erupt from the darkness
To make amends for the years of mistakes
Soon overrun and left to the forces
Soldiers encircled and buildings were razed
